Severe poverty of farmers in Thailand is visible in the form of agricultural land abandonment. The causes of land abandonment will reflect the causes of poverty and the effectiveness of government agricultural policies. This paper identifies the factors that cause agricultural land abandonment and the appropriate policy measures for effectively addressing the problem. The study utilizes the optimization method based on duality production theory with 808 parcel samples. The Simultaneous Tobit estimation was used to estimate the system of nine equations. The study identified the contributing factors for land abandonment and provides alternative direction for policy makers.
