Users’ Behavior in The Area Surrounding The Phra Pathom Chedi,Nakhon Pathom

Abstract
Nowadays, the area surrounding Phra Pathom Chedi is used as a multipurpose area of Nakhon Pathom. Based on preliminary observations, the area is not fully utilized; some areas are densely populated but some areas are not used. This article aims to study the use of space and to study the factors influencing the users’ behavior of the area surrounding Phra Pathom Chedi. This led to problem analysis and propose further landscape improvement.
The research method is divided into 3 steps: to study the document, field survey and questionnaire interviews. The first step is to collect data from research papers relate to the study area, study the concepts and theories involve. The second step is to observe of users' behavior are as follows split survey area, set the recording interval, observe the pattern of activity and distribution of space usage. Then summarize the observation plan. The third step is to interview with users and information about the area surrounding
Phra Pathom Chedi by 100 questionnaires.
At present, the area surrounding The Phra Pathom Chedi is used as a multipurpose area of Nakhon
found that there was no full space usage efficiency.

the study area and studied the concepts and related theories. Step Two was observing the behavior
of using space by the observe process include divided the area of exploration, determined
time of recording data, observed patterns of activities and the distribution of using space
then summarize as the plan of observations. The last step was conduct interviews the general
information of users and information about the area surrounding The Phra Pathom Chedi by
questionnaires of 200 people.
Research results showed the behavior patterns of the area surrounding The Phra Pathom Chedi, the
main is the passive recreation activities by the distribution of densely using space around open
space that the surface of the material is hardscape. There was the determination in the scope of
activities such as an area for exercise, space for shops etc. and the area near the main
entrance (North and South), factors that influence the maximum space usage are 1)
shady atmosphere include areas with large trees that provide shade, but do not allow the
use of dense-planting, so can use the area under the tree with several activities such as sit and
talk together, etc. 2) easy access to areas include area near the roads, and can see
the activities clearly 3) There was an area for interesting activities such as the
store for the buying food and eating, etc. 4) There was safety includes the area was safe
from car traffic. There was sufficient lighting and there was no isolated atmosphere that cannot be
obscured from vision, etc. 5) There was a quiet area with no interference from people and noise. 6)
There was a beautiful view. 7) Nearby parking position respectively.
