Natural factors in Landscape Architecture Design for A Natural Dye Weaving Cultural Learning Center
Main Article Content
Abstract
Natural-dyed weaving culture with its production processes rooted in unique local ecosystems reflects the relationship between human lifestyle and nature. Therefore, this culture has been shaped into a cultural landscape. Natural dye weaving cultural learning centers are regarded as spaces for knowledge transmission by experiential learning. However, research on natural factors influencing the landscape architectural design of such learning centers remains limited, leading to this study, which aims to examine the relationship between natural factors and the planning and design of natural-dyed weaving learning centers within a cultural landscape framework. The objectives are to identify the types of natural factors affecting each stage of the production and knowledge-transmission processes, and to determine how those factors are applied in the planning and design of learning centers. The case studies are: 1) Ban Rai Phai Ngam, Chiang Mai Province 2) Kaewwanna, Phrae Province and 3) Chansoma, Surin Province.
The research process began with a literature review and collection of secondary data on case studies, field surveys for primary data, and cross-case comparisons to synthesize findings and conclusions.
The findings indicate that microclimate, hydrology, topography & soil, as well as vegetation are natural factors that drive the production and transmission of knowledge at the natural dye weaving learning centers. These factors are used as criteria for selecting the center's location, arranging the layout of functional spaces, and designing the atmosphere, as well as serving as a medium for experiential learning. The findings of this research can be applied as sustainable design guidelines for learning centers with similar contexts.
