Abstract
Prototype Design and Development of Home Use Souvenirs and Home Decorative Items, Produced from Natural Material and Production Wastage from Pathum-thani Province
The study is conducted by applied research in which the objectives are the following : Study information in regards to forms, materials and production process of home use and home decoration resources as well as the requirements of the target group ; analyzing the collected information so that a guideline can be effectively created in order to develop the design of the new product prototypes. Development and interpretation of the prototype design ; and review how the design prototype has fulfi lled the target consumer group’s satisfaction. Statistical population and sampling: The populations of interest in this study are the following : Product consumer in general, with criteria of earning specifi c income and residing in central Thailand. A simple random sample results in a sample size of 216 persons. Product consumer specifi cally with the criteria of interest in home use and home decorative items, earning a specifi c income and residing in central Thailand. A simple random sample results in a sample size of 205 persons. Measures: Data are collected by questionnaires designed by researcher. The questionnaires comprise of check list, rating scales and numeric open end questions. Data analysis used percents, arithmetic means, and standard deviations. Interpretation and conclusions : is apparent that majority of the product consumers are interested in purchasing the home use souvenirs and home decorative items, which are creatively developed to refl ect the simple, long lasting look and natural earth tone in color. Natural materials should be used in combination with some others. As a result of this conclusion, 9 prototype designs are developed in conjunction with the fi ndings. 9 prototypes developed are subsequently used to conduct a study and concluded by the target consumers as satisfactory. They are addressed as appropriate in terms of forms, materials, creativity, craftsmanship, maintenance, safety, beauty, texture and yet uniquely Thai.
