MOTIVATION FACTORS TO VIOLATE BUDDHIST TRAINING RULES OF CHABBAVAGGIYA BHIKKHUS

Abstract

The purposes of motivation factors to violate training rules of Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus are to study the factors that motivate the violation of the Bhakkhapak group and to study the effects of the violations of Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus. The findings of the study showed the factors that motivate Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus to violate the Buddhist training rules are: (1) the goal of ordination is not ordained for nirvana but ordained only for a living. (2) Economic and social context, because Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus were born in the agricultural family that are suffering economy with no social acceptance. (3) Personal characteristics and behaviors, Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus are lazy, totally convenient-oriented, bully and annoying to any others. (4) Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus are not ordained by faith, but ordained to escape work in secular life only. (5) Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus are the large group of monks, whoever makes evil being counted included in Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus' group at once. (6) Some Bhikkhus follow the Lord Buddha in various rural areas, whoever violates the discipline being easily threaten. (7) Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus are the clever group, but lacking of wise knowledge in the right discipline, once the violation are occurred Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus try to find the gap in evading the disciplines which is the origin of Buddhist training rules respectively. The impact of Chabbavaggiya Bhikkhus’ violation found out that these Bhikkhus’ behavior has seriously deteriorated the faith of the villagers, disgusted by beloved monks and enacted the Buddhist training rules finally.
