This study investigates the current situation and challenges of counselors' vocational abilities in China's higher vocational colleges amidst the rapid integration of information technology and modern manufacturing. Adopting a rigorous mixed-methods approach, qualitative interviews were conducted at Kunming Metallurgy College, while quantitative surveys were used to comprehensively evaluate 118 counselor responses across 10 institutions in Yunnan Province. Empirical analysis of multiple linear regression reveals that excessive administrative workloads significantly impair counselors' vocational capacity by marginalizing core educational responsibilities. Furthermore, findings highlight a critical misalignment with industrial development needs: counselors cannot integrate ideological education with the regional craftsman spirit and have deficient industry-specific knowledge. Conversely, systematic training participation and institutional award recognition exert strong positive impacts on overall professional competency. To ensure sustainable career development, this paper proposes implementing digital administrative tools, establishing layered, industry-integrated training systems, and creating robust counselor-enterprise interactive mechanisms. Ultimately, these strategic optimizations empower counselors to effectively bridge academic education with corporate employment demands, successfully fulfilling their essential dual mission.
