An Analysis of Appamâdadhamma Based on Nettipakarana

Abstract

This article was a part of research work entitled “An Analysis of Appamâdadhamma Based on Nettipakarana.” It was qualitative type focusing on documents containing 3 objectives; 1) to study the method of Buddhism explanation based on Netipakarana, 2) to explain Appamādadhamma based on Nettipakaraṇa, and 3) to analyze Appamādadhamma based on Nettipakaraṇa. The findings were that Nettipakaraṇa text contains the method of Buddha’s teaching explanation divided into 3 sections; 1) 16 Hara dealing with an explanation of the words in Buddha’s sermon, 2) 5 Naya or the way to unveil the teaching of Four Noble Truth, 3) 16 Sāsanapaṭṭhāna and 28 Sāsanapaṭṭhāna dealing with a classifying the Buddha’s teaching into the group relying on its essences as the main task based on 18 Mūlapada as the core teaching including in Four Noble Truth. With Nettipakarana’s method applied to explain and analyze Appamādadhamma, it starts with sum up the contents of the teaching into Four Noble Truths, analysis, and verify its accuracy and explaining in detail systematically, after that, the Four Noble Truth will be presented by 3 Naya until it was divided between worldly defilement and Vodāna (purity), realizing the 2 spheres, Vaṭṭa or cycle of birth and death and Vivaṭṭa or extinguish of birth and death.
