Abstract
This article aiming at illustrating on “Principle and Methods for Samatha Practicing” presented that Samatha meditation is a method of mind training for calm, all level of concentration is considered as meditation. Reasons for training the mind to reach meditation state because mostly ordinary people are always affected by defilements that cause their minds to become restless. The mind is not calmful because it has been subjected to 5 kinds of hindrances by practicing Samatha meditation or concentration. The first course of practice or activity in which Buddhist monks must study, as important goal in Buddhism, is the Threefold Training teaching for solving the concerns of practitioners who want to find out a way to overcome desire. This teaching has great merit, because it leads to an appreciate results as follows; living happily in the present world through the discipline of the noble ones, it leads to Vipassana knowledge, gaining supernatural knowledge, born as a Brahma, entering Nirodhasamāpatti and other benefits in present are calmful meditation helps mental concentration, being more efficient, study is more successful, less of illnesses, happily living, bright skin, long life, being able to face various events with calmful and careful mind, being able to solve the difficulties and problem in life correctly, especially it is the base of Vipassana practicing, leading the ultimate Nibbana in final, the happiness in the future is surely expected.
