Abstract

ABSTRACT
The article titled “Kalayanamita Dhammas: Principles for Building Competency in Teaching and Learning” is a study of the principles of building competence in teaching and learning according to the Buddhist principles of Kalyanamitta Dhammas (Qualities of a good friend) to provide knowledge efficient and effective in teaching and learning management of teachers in the modern era. Teachers must have modern teaching competencies in line with changes in the era of globalization, creative, analytical, synthetic, and holistic or integrated thinking To create the competence of knowledge, skills and personal characteristics of attributes that will affect behavior that is necessary by applying the seven principles of Kalyanamitta Dhammas to enhance teaching competency. These are: 1. Endearing, 2. respectable, 3.emulable, 4.being a counsellor, 5.being a patient lisener, 6. Able to deliver or to treat profound subjects and 7.not leading or spurring on to a useless end. Therefore, in conclusion that the effective teaching and learning management must adhere principles of Kalyanamitta Dhammas. Whereas the teacher must be as good as possible and do the best to help the development of both teacher and learner competency to progress with efficiency and effectiveness as expected in the end.
