The Cityscape of Korat : A Case Study of Paintings Created by Stuart Davis During 1928-1932

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the cubism paintings of Stuart Davis between 1928-1932 in terms of thoughts and contents, elements, composition, colours, and painting techniques; to create the painting entitled “The Cityscape of Korat in Acrylic. The sample included Stuart Davis’s cubism paintings. Data was collected using grid table, structured observation checklist, structured interview, and researchers’ paintings. Delphi technique was applied to collected data from artistic specialist. Data was analyzed with percentage.
          The findings revealed as follows.
          Thoughts and contents in cubism painting of Stuart Davis between 1928-1932 reflected his impressive other locations mostly followed by placidity of town, relaxation places, and technology. Shapes were the most used elements in the paintings followed by values, lines, and dots. The overall composition was mostly found while intentional peripheral space and liner prospertive were also little used. The mostly used colours in every painting included white, dark blue, yellow, red, blue, orange, pink, green, brown, and grey in intense tone. Flat wash was used rather than texture colouring.
          The creation of the painting entitled “The Cityscape of Korat in Acrylic” was inspired by thoughts and contents in relation to placidity of town. As for painting visual elements, shapes were mostly used while values, lines, and dots were moderately used. Overall composition was mostly adopted rather than liner prospective and intentional peripheral space. The mostly used colours in every painting included white, dark blue, yellow, red, blue, orange, pink, green, brown, and grey in intense tone. Flat painting technique was mostly used while texting technique was used in some areas.
