Japan and the Development of the Country: Through the Long-term Historical Approach

Abstract

This article aimed to study the factors of Japanese country's development by using long-term historical approach as a framework for study. It studied from documents, books, and related research. Then the results of the study were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. The results of the study revealed that Japan's development was driven by external factors, including 1) the changing in knowledge from the west through the arrival of Dutch traders, Chinese, and Korean ambassadors during the Tokugawa Shogunate 2) the Japanese coercion of opening the country from the United States in AD 1853. The internal factors that Japan wants to raise the country to be equal to the western countries which is a factor that affect the development of Japan. This led to a change in governance, education, law, as well as social systems and modern industrial.
