Model for Economic, Social, Cultural, and Environmental Development of Ban Rong Wai Community, Dong Mahawan Sub-district, Wiang Chiang Rung District, Chiang Rai Province

Abstract

This research aims to study the economic, social, cultural, and environmental development model of Ban Rong Wai community, Dong Mahawan Sub-district, and Wiang Chiang Rung District, Chiang Rai Province. This qualitative research’s instrument was an in-depth interview and focus group discussions. Key informants include the Isan ethnic population who migrated to live in the Ban Rong Wai area, representatives from community organizations, government and private agencies, local leaders, educational institutions, religious leaders and the public sector. Content analysis is used to describe the data through pictures and tables.

The results showed that economic, social, cultural, and environmental development of Ban Rong Wai community, Dong Mahawan sub-district, Wiang Chiang Rung district Chiang Rai Province through the process of preparing facilitators, organizing community forums, assessing community potential, setting visions, and formulating plans leads to the development model that consists of 1) using a self-reliant economy and expanding profits to communities in the form of knowledge capital and community capital 2) blending traditional beliefs with modernity in the form of transmission from local philosophers to a new generation. 3) Maintaining a balance between the environment and the way of life of the people in the community through the form of regulation and an agreement to reduce the impact on the environment while maintaining traditional lifestyles.
