Development of The Strengthening in Community Health Management by Local Administrative Organizations in Chiang Mai, Thailand

Abstract

This research aims to develop participation and promotion of community health management including presentation of strategic issues and projects to promote and strengthen community health management by local administrative organizations in Chiang Mai. This study was Participatory Action Research with Sansai Luang Municipality, Sansai district, Chiang Mai Province that was set up as the research site. Applied the A-I-C process (Appreciation – Influence – Control) in development. Conduct pre and post development assessments with the sample group of people in Sansai Luang Municipality who participated in the activity, a total of 281. Results are as follow: 

Results are as follow:  Results of the participatory development in community health management of the local administrative organizations, indicated that after the development, Sansai Luang Municipality was high increase in the participation level by the community members particularly in the participation on health activities as related to physical fitness, environmental conservation and social activities linked to mental development among community members. At the same time, Sansai Luang Municipality had improved the management administration of community health by setting up a section or unit and committee, that could represent the community in joining the administration of community health, provide and develop the basic structure that promotes health supervision such as sports field, and conduct of social activities for the community group members. Aside from these, from evaluation after the improvement, there was an increase in the strengthening in the management of community health of the Sansai Luang Municipality, with a statistical significance at P<0.05.

On strategic management and project to strengthen community health management of the local administrative organizations in Chiang Mai province, it was found that after brainstorming for ideas by the administrators of the local governments,  community leaders and  people in the area were able to present their strategic ideas in 5 aspects, namely: 1) development of the basic structure and urban planning; 2) improvement and promotion of community economy; 3) social development and quality of life; 4) development of natural resources; and, 5) urban development and administration. From the strategic issues, the activities/ project was able to classify the 24 sub-projects
