THE IDENTITY DESIGN OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION TO REPRESENT THE LOCAL PRODUCTS OF 3 NORTHERN PROVINCES

Abstract
The purpose of this research were to explore the identity of 3 Northern provinces and to find out the methods to represent a practical originally geography in term of symbol. The case study consists of Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Lam Pang. A sample of 100 populations, who live in local area at least for 10 years, were draw from each province. The instruments used were the documentary research and self-administered questionnaires to find out the identity and the product of each province to considered as the design method in order to 2 ways of interpretation, the first is low abstraction symbol and the second is high abstraction symbol. And then created 3 style of geography design for each province which would evaluate by the sampling group. Based on the research conducted in the paper, the results revealed that the identity design of geographical indication was the high abstraction symbol using the common illustration and artificial type to interpret for Chiang Mai. While Chiang Rai and Lam Pang were the low abstraction symbol using product graphic picture, province identity and common type to interpreted their own province. As above mention points, all samples agreed that with those representations they can reflect the meaning of their geography properly. Recommendation: Researcher used the references of history timeline, which can be changed in the future and some detail could be missed from the past. More additional information should be updated in each period of time.
