Abstract

The study of “Communication behaviors and social network uses for working of the Nation News Agency’s reporters” aims to (1) study behaviors in using the social network of The Nation’s reporters and (2) study the social network use in working of The Nation’s reporters. The data is collected from the sample group of The Nation’s reporters in 11 departments including 1) Political News, 2) Stability and Economic News, 3) International News, 4) Social News, 5) Education News, 6) Crime News, 7) Royal Court News, 8) Danger Prevention News, 9) Regional News, 10) Entertainment News and 11) Sports News. Ten reporters from each department are selected as the sample group, a total of 110 reporters. A questionnaire is used to collect data. The statistics used for analysis are numbers, percentage, mean and standard deviation by using T-Test and One Way ANOVA for a hypothesis test. The result revealed that 1. 55.5% of the Nation News Agency’s reporters is female, at the age of 26-30 years old (28.2%). Most reporters are from the International News Department and the Danger Prevention News Department which each Department is equal number at 16.4% 2. In terms of behaviors in using social network of The Nation News Agency’s reporters, it showed that the most popular social network site amongst the sample group is Facebook. The frequency of use is every day and for more than 3 hours per day. Most of them use social network in workplaces. Social network is used between 20.01-00.00 hrs. Moreover, it found that the sample group registered for the social network membership themselves and they have been members of the social network for more than 4 years. They mostly have more than 500 contacts in the social network; nevertheless, the sample group has only one account each to access the social network and the most popular device used in the social network communication is a mobile phone. They mostly use social network to contact the people they know. The content shared on social network is their personal lives and most of them also access social network for both their profession and personal uses. They use it to report and pass news every day and also use it to contact with the source of information infrequently. For the use of information shared on social network for news making, we found that some of them use social network to broadcast news everyday by using it as a tool to connect their work with news broadcasting. Most of them investigate the information from the social network before using. If they cannot prove any facts or evidences, they will not use that information in the news. 3. The study found that the use of social network of The Nation News Agency’s reporters is generally at the highest level, especially in receiving information quickly and followed by sharing an idea with other people easily. The minimal use of it is sharing personal opinion. 4. The comparison of behaviors in using social network of The Nation News Agency’s reporters classified by demographic characteristics revealed that The Nation News Agency’s reporters, who have different genders and ages, have the same behaviors in using social network. It also found that the reporters from different departments have different behaviors in using social network. 5. The comparison of social network use of The Nation News Agency’s reporters classified by demographic characteristics revealed that The Nation News Agency’s reporters, who have different genders and ages and are in different departments, have the same behaviors in using social network.
