Sports Photographers’ Roles and Ethical Considerations in High-Stakes Global Competitions

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the role and ethics of sports photographers in critical situations during global competitions, using a case study of the 2025 US Open event. This was a period of high tension that directly impacted the outcome of the match. The research employs a qualitative analysis approach based on actual event data and an analysis of the social and ethical context. It was found that sports photographers are not only recorders of events but also factors that may disrupt the competition in certain situations. The lack of clear guidelines and ethics led to conflicts among those involved in the event. The article suggests ways to develop professional ethics and stricter regulatory policies to promote responsible sports photography practices, ensuring respect for the competition. Additionally, it proposes appropriate training to strike a balance between capturing images and maintaining fairness in the competition.
