Abstract

This research aims to explore ideologies in film, Bad Genius, a Thai big hit movie. The study employs qualitative content analysis method through Louis Althusser’s ideology and Roland Barthes’ semiotics frameworks. Results reveal that the film uses ideological practices for creating legitimacy and reproduction of capitalism ideology. Power of capitalism is demonstrated by knowledge and money in that all students wish for good grades in exchange of their desire. In addition, school (the educational ideological state apparatus) is still a place for reproduction this ideology while counter ideology is showed with a case of school fees that reflects bribery of authorities in Thailand.
