A Community-Based Ecotourism Management Model for the Southern Region of Thailand Along the Andaman Seacoast

Abstract

This research aims to 1) investigate the practices of community-based ecotourism in the Southern of Thai along the Andaman Sea coast, 2) explore the model of ecotourism management applied by a prototype community on the Southern of Thai along the Andaman Sea coast, and 3) apply this model of ecotourism management to a target community. The researcher employed qualitative research.


Findings are as follow: In the five Southern Thai communities along the Andaman Sea coast, manage their ecotourism in correspondence with the following eight aspects (8As): 1) Attraction,2) Accessibility, 3) Amenity, 4) Ancillary service, 5) Accommodation, 6) Activity, 7) Association, and 8) Application of local wisdom. The community model is Ban Na Teen. The ecotourism management by community organizations together to manage tourism resources using local bases And have organized tourism according to the ecotourism management model 8 (8As) when bringing the model Ban Naithon Community Development And evaluating the satisfaction of the two groups of tourists, found that they were satisfied with the ecotourism management of the community at a high level (average 3.73 and 4.06) respectively.
