The Development of a Balanced Scorecard Model for Ramkhamhaeng University

Abstract

This research article aim to (1) the components of a balanced scorecard model for Ramkhamhaeng University (RU); constructs and develops (2) the model under study, and evaluates (3) the model constructed. The sample population used in the construction (1) of the balanced scorecard model consisted of twelve RU personnel using the technique of in- depth interviews. The guidelines for the balanced scorecard were studied by eliciting the opinions of 346 RU personnel in faculties, institutes, and offices. In the development of the balanced scorecard model, fifteen qualified persons and experts inspected the appropriateness and congruence of the model by giving their opinions and in focus group discussions. In the evaluation (2) of the constructed model, the opinions were elicited from 520 RU personnel and focus group discussions with eleven qualified persons and experts for the feasibility and usability of the model. The research instruments consisted of a semi-structured interview form, focus group discussions, and a questionnaire. The statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, and standard deviation.


The results of the research revealed that (1) The balanced scorecard model for RU consisted of the principles and concepts of the model; objectives; and components. The practices of the model were conducted in four methods: planning; operating; follow-up and inspection, and improvement. It was found that the model exhibited the guidelines of a balanced scorecard overall and in each aspect at a high level. (2) The development of the model under study exhibited appropriateness at a high level with the content validity index (CVI) of 1.00, passing the inspection criteria. And (3) The evaluation of the constructed model exhibited feasibility and usability at the highest level.
