Abstract

Community welfare is allocated by the community as a base for development under specific problems and needs of different areas. Therefore, the development of a savings group is important as it clearly reflects the context of each particular area. This qualitative research aimed to study a model of factors affecting successful management of Sukhirin Community Savings Group, Sukhirin Sub-district, Sukhirin District, Narathiwat Province. In-depth interview and focus groups along with participatory meetings and brainstorming were used with 17 participants comprising chairman, treasurer, and committee of Sukhirin Subdistrict dministrative Organization. The data obtained were analyzed and descriptively presented. The results revealed that the model of factors affecting successful management of Sukhirin Community Savings Group consisted of internal factors referring to the group members and committee, and external factors including the network related to the Communitiy Development Department, and Cooperatives. The model in successful management covered treasury management, planning, participation, organization management, and leadership roles. From the interviews, the details of group management including strengths, weaknesses, obstacles and opportunities were illustrated. The result suggested that agencies responsible for supervising Sukhirin Community Savings Group should be an important contributor to the body of knowledge and accurate group management guidelines
