บทคัดย่อ

 


An education trend in the 21st century globally
is to produce environmentally literate citizens. Teacher
preparation institutes are responsible for preparing
teachers to educate future generations to be
environmentally literate. The challenge is how to teach
environmental education for pre-service science
teachers. To address this issue, the study presents
learning activities implemented in an environmental
education course and explores the impact of the
course on the development of pre-service teachers’
environmental attitudes and behaviors. Data collected
through questionnaire and journal reveal significant
improvement of environmental attitudes and behaviors
of the pre-service teachers after experiencing the course.
The results suggest that learning activities in environmental education should be designed in line
with constructivist theory. Environmental education
course should provide opportunities for learners to
engage in inquiry-based lessons; to interact with a
variety of learning activities and instructional media;
and to exchange ideas with experienced persons and
peers regarding environmental problems. Further
suggestions for teacher preparation institutes and
society have been provided.
