Abstract

The research of multicultural communities in the midst of nationalism
discourse in Deep South of Thailand aimed to 1) study production and
mobilisation of Melayu patani Nationalism Discourse which is the root cause
of conflict in Deep South 2) study supporting factors toward production and
mobilisation process of multicultural communities existing in the midst of
Melayu patani Nationalism Discourse in Deep South 3) lesson learned to
present a model to mobilise multicultural communities in line with context
and circumstances in Deep South of Thailand. This research applied mixed
methods research approach which a qualitative method as the main method
to gain comprehensive and meaningful findings. The units of analysis were
the group of past leader of insurgent, the group of knowledgeable people and
people in the communities from research areas in Deep South. The research
found that mobilisation of multicultural
Communities in Deep South of Thailand compose of 3 main elements
were 1) Establishment of community of faith 2) Formation of community
mechanisms both supporting and conflict management mechanism and 3)
Campaign for multicultural activities.
