The development of learning media for English communication in real-life situations for the Tourist Police in Ayutthaya Historical Park

Abstract

          The purposes of this research were 1) to study fundamental data on learning media development for communication in English in real-life situations for Ayutthaya Tourist Police, 2) to develop the learning media for English in real-life situations for Ayutthaya Tourist Police, 3) to implement the learning media for English in real-life situations for Ayutthaya Tourist Police, and 4) to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the learning media for English in real-life situations for Ayutthaya Tourist Police. The population was 19. The research instruments were interview, participation observation, learning media, and an achievement test with reliability at 0.79. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and growth score. The results were as follows.


          1. The fundamental data investigation revealed that the most required skill was speaking English. The contents required were greetings and offering help, giving advice and, giving directions and tourist attractions in Ayutthaya. The most required methods were not by studying grammar rules, learning in a classroom, and taking class after their working hours or in their free time, but by practicing in real life situations with a training manual.


          2. The development of learning media consisted of 4 chapters 1) Greetings and offering help 2) Giving advice 3) Giving directions and 4) Tourist attractions in Ayutthaya, in which the content is taught in real-life activities.


          3. The results of learning media revealed that the learners were all very interested and actively involved in English conversation in real-life activities.


          4. The study revealed that after using the learning media, the learners’ growth scores were 67.16 with mean = 18.53, higher than before using the learning media, in which the mean = 14.84.
