Mr. Ruek, Chronicles of Thalang CityAbstract
In 1841 (B.E. 2384), Mr. Ruek, a son of
Chow Phya Surintharaja, the writer of chronicles
of Thalang City, affirmed himself as an ordinary
person without any rank. Luang Sri Worawat,
who wrote Phattalung Chronicles in 1919 (B.E.
2462), proposed his idea that Mr. Ruek, whom
Luang Udomsombat mentioned in the letter in
1838 (B.E. 2381), was Phya Thalang. However,
there was no appointment certified seal to
confirm that it was the truth. In 1974 (B.E. 2517),
Sunai Ratchapantarak, the author of “Phuket”,
mentioned that Mr. Ruek was Phya Thalang,
while Mr. Suek and Mr. Sua were sons of Phya
Thalang Tian, following to the Chronicles of
Phattalung and his opinion. Later, in 1984 (B.E.
2527), the organising committee of the 200
years Celebration of Heroines of Thalang,
Phuket Province, republished the book “Phuket”
as a commemoration book of the 200th
anniversary of Thalang Heroines. This book
caused interested people to misunderstand
Thalang history. Those people believed the
actual history defined that Mr. Ruek was Phya
Thalang, and Mr. Suek and Mr. Sua were sons
of Phya Thalang Tian. This article proved that
Mr. Ruek was not Phya Thalang. In connection
with the literary of King Rama V, it stated that
he did not present himself to the king as a
government officer and he had no appointment
seal as Phya Thalang. Also, the letter of Phya
Phuket Kasetraraksa (Lamduan) was the
evidence determined that Mr. Ruek in Luang
Udomsombat’s letter was not Phya Thalang,
and Mr. Suek and Mr. Sua were not sons of
Phya Thalang Tian.
