Abstract

This was a tragic love story between a young public servant and a beautiful teacher of a provincial women’s school. The couples had been engaged and planned for their wedding before the bride-to-be competed in a beauty pageant and was crowned Miss Nakhon Si Thammarat 2479 B.E. She, then, had to represent her province at a national stage in Bangkok where she again won the regional title. The title caused an obstacle in their love. With jealousy and fear of losing the woman he loved, the groom-to-be had turned this love story to a terrifying crime eventually. Not only did this case reflect atmosphere and growing awareness of the beauty pageantry in Thailand’s history, but it also indicated issues and conditions of love between men and women formed out of the social context.
