Abstract

The article "A Retrospective on Japan’s Amphibious Landing in Pattani During World War II" examines the Japanese military landing in Pattani on December 8, 1941, as part of the Greater East Asia War and World War II. The study explores the geopolitical tensions leading up to the invasion, focusing on Thailand’s diplomatic stance and its interactions with Japan before and during the conflict. The content discusses the factors contributing to Japan’s decision to land troops in Pattani, the role of the Thai government under Field Marshal Plaek Phibunsongkhram, and the responses of the Thai military, civilians, and youth soldiers who resisted the invasion. Additionally, the article analyzes Japan’s strategic objectives in Southeast Asia and the long-term political and security implications for Thailand. This article contributes to a deeper understanding of World War II’s impact on Thailand, particularly Pattani’s role in Japan’s military strategy and Thailand’s political transformations during the period.
