Open Access Policy
All articles published in the SJSS are open access and freely available to read, download, and share. However, proper citations of these articles are required for their reproduction and public distribution by any medium.
Ownership and Management
The SJSS is operated under the Research Department of the Institute of Social Technology (IST) at Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand, as the scope of the SJSS is directly related to the social sciences. The head of the Research Department of the IST, along with the editorial team and supporting staff, are fully in charge of the operation of the publication. Initially, the SJSS received financial support from the Office of the Higher Education Commission for its establishment. Currently, the SJSS is financially supported by Suranaree University of Technology and the publication fees from accepted articles.
Copyright and Licensing
Prospective authors should be aware that all article submissions must be original and be accompanied by the consent form listing all named authors. Additionally, authors must obtain official permission to include texts, figures, data, or any other information attributable to others.
Upon submitting the article, the authors grant the right to the Suranaree Journal of Social Science (SJSS) to publish the article without any restrictions. However, the authors retain the copyright to their work, and the right to reproduce, distribute, and display their work. Authors can use the articles in their academic work or share them with their students while the SJSS controls how the articles are disseminated.
Revenue Sources
In addition to the financial support from Suranaree University of Technology, the SJSS generates revenue through the publication fee, set at 4,000 Baht or 120 USD per accepted article. Authors are required to pay this fee after receiving the official acceptance letter. This financial model enables the SJSS to operate independently, allowing the editorial team to function autonomously in managing the journal's operations.
Advertising and Direct Marketing
The SJSS does not have any advertising or direct marketing. Advertisements about academic conferences in the Social Sciences and Humanities and academic-related news are published from time to time without any charge.
Meaning of “Suranaree”
The Suranaree Journal of Social Science derives its name from Thao Suranaree, also spelled Thao Suranari (1771–1852), the wife of the deputy governor of Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat). She is revered as the courageous heroine who successfully defended the city against invaders in 1826. Numerous locations in this area have been named in her honor, including a sub-district, a university, a college, school, buildings, and much more. Her monument is one of the most famous and sacred tourist attractions in Nakhon Ratchasima.
History of the Journal
In 2006, the Institute of Social Technology at Suranaree University of Technology established a journal to serve as a medium for faculties and students to publish their research work. The Research Department is responsible for this project and the first volume was published in June 2007. The SJSS publishing process strictly follows the journal quality evaluation of the Commission on Higher Education (CHE), Thailand. Consequently, the SJSS was awarded financial support for journal publishing (in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences) from CHE from 2007-2009. The journal continuously publishes and has been indexed in the Thai-Journal Citation Index Centre (TCI) (Tier 1) database since January 1, 2015, and the ASEAN CITATION INDEX (ACI)
