The Happiness of Elderly Migrants who Moved to the City of Khon Kaen, Khon Kaen Province

Abstract

This article aims to investigate happiness and a variety of factors related to happiness for elderly migrants who moved to the city of Khon Kaen in the province of Khon Kaen.The research methodology selected was a sequential mixed methodology with individual levels as units of analysis. Qualitative research data were collected by conducting in-depth interviews with 16 elderly migrants.  Quantitative research data were collected by interviewing 276 elderly migrants residing in the city of Khon Kaen. Data were analyzed using content analysis, descriptive statistics, and Chi-square analysis. The results for the happiness of elderly migrants who moved to the city of Khon Kaen included the following dimensions; 1) family: happiness with children 2) stability of residence: feeling confident and not abandoned at the end of life and 3) physical and mental: access to health services. The factors related to the happiness of elderly migrants who moved to the city of Khon Kaen included, age, educational level, marital status, monthly income, the location of origin before migration, who they migrateg with, level of preparation before migrating, daily life activity, household roles, and health care behaviors.
