THE COMMERCIAL AGRICULTURE OF THAILAND: IMPORTANCE AND DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES

Abstract
Agriculture is a basic economic sector of Thailand. It is an important factor for economic development of Thailand leading to the link between the agricultural and industrial sectors. But the adjustment to modern agricultural production has not been efficient resulting in productivity being not changed. This article points out the importance of and guidelines for development of commercial agriculture of Thailand to create growth and stability in the agricultural sector. Agricultural development suitable for the changing economic system must have appropriate strategies as follows: (1) on production, the producers or farmers must reduce costs, improve production qualities, develop product standards, increase productivity, develop technologies, and develop human resources; (2) on marketing, concerned agencies must develop competitive advantages and regional cooperation, support exports and processed products; and (3) on supports, concerned agencies should strengthen production and marketing capacities of the communities.
