Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effect of narrative theory online psychological counseling on burnout in medical personnel. To study the effect of narrative theory online psychological counseling on burnout in medical personnel working in public health service establishments of Health Region 6 who voluntarily participated in the research, 20 persons were divided into 2 groups: an experimental group of 10 persons and a control group of 10 persons. The research instruments consisted of 2 parts: a medical personnel burnout assessment form developed from the Thai version of the burnout scale translated from the Maslach burnout inventory (MBI) by Siraya Sammawaj and an online psychological counseling program using narrative theory on burnout in medical personnel, which provided 8 counseling sessions, 45-60 minutes per session, twice a week, for a total of 4 weeks. The control group did not receive counseling. The sample group was assessed for medical personnel burnout in 3 phases: pre-experiment, post-experiment, and follow-up. A one-variable between-group and one-variable within-group repeated-measures analysis of variance was used. When differences were found, the mean values were compared pairwise using the Bonferroni method.

The results of the study found that medical personnel who received online psychological counseling using the narrative theory on burnout in the experimental group had lower scores on medical personnel burnout than the control group in the pre-experimental period, post-experimental period, and follow-up period, with statistical significance at the .05 level. Medical personnel in the experimental group had lower scores on medical personnel burnout in the post-experimental period and follow-up period than the pre-experimental period, with statistical significance at the .05 level. In conclusion, online psychological counseling using the narrative theory can reduce burnout in medical personnel.
