Abstract
This research, The Creation of Metale Textbook, the instrument of Pwo Karen, at Laivo Subdistrict, Sangklaburi District, Kanchanaburi Province, was based on a primary research of the Ethnomusicology. The purposes of this research were 1) to study the context of the Pwo Karen society 2) to create the Metale textbook for the instruction in the forms of documents, videos and internet and 3) to trial, evaluate, develop and improve the effective of the Metale textbook.
The research results revealed that 1) Metale is the string instrument of Pwo Karen at Laivo Sub-district. It is assumed that Metale was developed from Mandolin. The music and song were presented through the singers’ own styles and became the important instrument which was popularly played in the different important Karen ceremony. Nowadays, the inheritance is hardly found because of the difficulty of the chanting and performing. Also, the inconvenience of song composers, whose main job were farmers, was the other problem 2) The creation of Metale textbook was brainstormed by the cooperation of the research team, song composers and language specialists in order to build the musical knowledge in the local wisdom model. The song composition was suitably remade for the beginners. Also, the teaching materials, such as documents, videos and audio clips were used for the learners to understand clearer 3) The efficiency of Metale textbook was 81.50/92.50 and 4) The textbooks of 11 learners were used to analyze. The survey results were overall at high level. Taking each aspect into consideration, it was found that the Metale history and the different components ( = 4.22), the postures and hand gestures ( = 4.30), playing melody ( =4.32), the song ( = 4.15), and the satisfactory of video and audio clips ( = 3.86) were suitably at a high level.
