Ethnicity of Vietnamese Thai Through Cultural Dimension, Economy and Society in Suratthani

Abstract

     This article aims to study the ethnicity of Vietnamese descent in economic, social and cultural dimensions in Suratthani province. The study targeted Ban Don  as a research area and the key informants were interviewed by using the interview guideline for data collection, in addtion to  the techniques e.g.  convesation record and documentary analysis.
     The research found that Thai people of Vietnamese descent migrated to Suratthani Province during World War II, by force under the order of Field Marshal P. Pibulsongkram in order to restain any threats that may threaten to national security there at the time. Most of Thai people of Vietnamese descent have taken a huge role in economic, social and cultural dimensions in Suratthani province. Particularly the economic role to develop and promote tourism industrym, and to transfer knowledge about craftsmen work, businessses and Vietnamese food to the local. Moreover, they are also enhancing the diplomatic relations between Thailand and Vietnam in may ways, and also to have a better community with well-established values of patience, diligent which being as a role model for people in local community in terms of culture, adherence to religion, traditions, and beliefs that affect to socialization and cultural preservation in the area.
