A Model of Vipassanā Practice Enhancement of Wat Buddha Dhamma, Willowbrook, il., USA

Abstract

This dissertation contains 3 objectives: 1) to study the Vipassana meditation practice in the Tripitaka, 2) to study the state of the Vipassana meditation practice at Wat Phuttharam, Willowbrook, Illinois, USA, and 3) to present the promotion model of Vipassana meditation practice at Wat Phuttharam, Willowbrook, Illinois, USA. This research was a qualitative type using a documentary research method, with in-depth-interviews with 4 Vipassana teachers and 17 practitioners, totaling 21 monks/person.

The results of the research found that the promotion model of Vipassana meditation practice at Wat Phuttharam, Willowbrook, Illinois, USA can be summarized as the IMG Model, which promotes the 7 Initial Deeds, such as purifying the precepts, cutting off various worries, and requesting meditation from the teacher, in a convenient place for practice. To promote the overcoming of obstacles is done by choosing meditation appropriate for one’s temperament. Promote the method of practicing Vipassana meditation according to the principles of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Meditation) includes teaching practitioners to focus on different postures, including standing, walking, sitting, lying down, and minor postures and various movements to promote their use in daily life to create physical and mental benefits and to make the intellect of mindfulness increasingly higher (Good Health).
