Abstract
Stephen Batchelor ผู้แต่งหนังสือเรื่องนี้เป็นนักเขียนและอาจารย์ นักวิชาการ ด้านพระพุทธศาสนาบรรยายสอนธรรมะที่เป็นที่รู้จักในระดับสากล เป็นชาวอังกฤษ ได้ศึกษาคำสอนของพระพุทธศาสนาทั้งส่วนที่ฝ่ายมหายาน เช่น ธิเบต จีน อินเดีย และเป็นนักปฏิบัติธรรม ได้ศึกษาพระพุทธศาสนาแบบธิเบตที่ธรรมศาลาซึ่งองค์อาไลลามะทรงประทับอยู่เมื่อคราวเสด็จลี้ภัยในอินเดีย และได้บวชเป็นสามเณรนิกายเกลุกปะ และได้เข้าศึกษาวิปัสสนากรรมฐานกับ S.N.Goenka ได้เดินทางไปเกาหลี เพื่อศึกษาพุทธศาสนานิกายเซน เมื่อกลับประเทศอังกฤษได้เป็นผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งวิทยาลัยพุทธศาสตร์ศึกษาและค้นคว้า (1996) ตั้งแต่ปี 1990 เป็นต้นมา
