Quality of Working Life and Social Security of Migrant Workers

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the quality of working life of migrant workers, 2) to study the level of social security of migrant workers, and 3) to compare of the quality of working life of migrant workers classified by personal factors, and 4) to study the relationship between the quality of working life and social security of migrant workers.  This research was quantitative research.  The sample consisted of 400 Myanmar migrant workers working in Bangkok and its vicinity with permission to work.  Statistics used in this research were percentage, mean and standard deviation and tested by t-test, One-way Analysis of Variance, Pearson product, Moment Correlation, and Least Significant Difference. 

The research results showed that; 1) the overall quality of work life was at a moderate level, 2) the overall social security was at moderate level, 3) a comparison between the quality of work life of migrant workers classified by personal factors showed that different sex, Thai communication skills and family members living in Thailand did not lead to different level of quality of working life. Whereas age, status, educational background, occupation, average monthly income, and the duration of work led to a significant difference in the quality of working life at the statistically significant level of 0.05, and 4) the relationship between social security and overall quality of working life were positive relationship in the same direction at statistically significant level of 0.05.
