Analysis on Cognitions of Authorities and Functions under the Sangha Act BE 2505 (AD1962) among Abbots in the Sangha Precinct of Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to investigate the concepts and theories of the roles and functions; 2) to investigate the cognitions of the abbots’ roles, authorities and functions and 3) to analyze the cognitions of their venerables’ authorities and functions imposed on the Abbots under the Sangha Act BE 2505 (AD1962) in the Sangha Precinct of Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province. The data collections of this qualitative research were through documentary exploration and in-depth interview conducted with key informants and descriptive presentation.

The results revealed: The conclusions of the analytical model on the cognition of the abbots’ roles, authorities and functions under the Sangha Act BE 2505 (AD1962) within the Sangha Precinct of Bang Yai District, Nonthaburi Province were regarding. The administration, the abbots should abide in the Vinaya and organize religious activities by the Buddhist occasions. The religious studies, their venerables should emphasize homilies paired with instructions as the Dhamma Pali personnel. The educational supports, their venerables should emphasize variety of activities and confer scholarship for the academic excellent students. The Buddhism evangelism, their venerables should disseminate functions about the general works on participatory Buddhist praying, emphasize on the principle of generosity and evangelization while not being so strict in instructions but with cordiality. The public utilizations, their venerables should and caring for monastic materials within the temples and their restorations. And the public supports, their venerables should administrate maintenance and patronage in managing the monasteries as the shelters financed with devout alms and their venerables should functionally administrate them. The problems on the absence of supports from the government agencies were required cognition to the problems and selecting the appropriate approach to address the problems. The problems of rules and regulations, land benefits and the red-tape of submitting documents should be interpreted and perceived which issue should be addressed. Finally, laws should be adopted to address the problems of administrating monks and their maintenance within the temples.
