Public Participation in Waste Management of Local Administrative Organizations in Ban Na Doem District, Surat Thani Province

Abstract

                The purposes of this research are to study the level of participation in waste management to compare the level of public participation in waste management and to study ways to promote public participation in waste management of local administrative organizations in Ban Na Doem District, Surat Thani Province. The sampling groups were 393 people who live in the area of the local administrative Organization in Ban Na Doem District. Were the chief administrators and chief officers of local administrative organizations in Ban Na Doem District. The tools used for collecting quantitative data were the questionnaires. The tools used for collecting qualitative data were the interview forms .

              The results of qualitative research showed that: Public Participation in Waste Management. In general, is in medium level. When considering each aspect, it is found that the operation has the highest mean, followed by the receiving of benefit, the decision making, and the evaluation respectively. The comparison level of participation in waste management of local administrative organizations Ban Na Doem District, Surat Thani Province classified by gender, age, education level, occupation, duration of residence, Local Administrative Organization and service area is in general significant at 0.05. When considering each aspect, it is found that the operation has the highest mean, followed by the receiving of benefit, the decision making, and the evaluation respectively.

              The results of qualitative research showed that: Community meetings of the people. The people can propose problems, find causes, and plan to manage the waste that occurs in the community. There is training, giving advice, campaigning and providing knowledge and understanding about proper waste separation. Local administrative organizations should organize activities to provide information by using modern technology as a tool to encourage new generations to participate in various activities, Moreover, they should organize a community forum to educate people about waste management, should support the budget, and should organize activities that are in line with the needs of the people so that they can apply them in their daily lives.
