Participation in the conservation of natural resources and the mangrove forest environment of the new generation: A case study of Ban Pak Kadae School students, Kanchanadit District, Surat Thani Province.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the participation in conservation of natural resources and the mangrove forest environment of a new generation: A case study of students of Ban Pak Kadae School, Kanchanadit District, Surat Thani Province; and to compare individual factors affecting participation in conservation of natural resources and the mangrove forest environment. Data were collected by asking 95 samples using questionnaire questions. The statistics used to analyze the data.

The results showed that:

1) Participation in the conservation of natural resources and the mangrove environment of the new generation was averaged in the lowest level. The mean scores sorted from highest to lowest average: operations, receiving benefits, evaluation aspect, and decision making, respectively.

2) Comparative results of personal factors affecting participation in conservation natural resources and mangrove forest environment found that the gender factor resulted in participation in decision making was statistically different at 0.05 (t=-2.47, sig =0.015). Participation in the operation was statistically different at 0.05 (t=-2.33, sig = 0.022). Participation in the assessment was statistically different at 0.05 (t=- 3.18, sig = 0.02). The age factor affecting participation in the benefit was statistically significant difference at 0.05 (F=2.69, sig = 0.026). Education level factors affecting participation in receiving benefits was statistically significant difference at 0.05 (F=2.70, sig = 0.025). The family income factors affecting participation in the assessment was statistically significant difference at 0.05 (F=2.76, sig = 0.046)
