Guidelines for a Policy Proposal: Developing an Integrated Scheme to Preserve Community Green Areas and Enhance Sustainable Activities in Ma-Kuer-Jae Municipal District, Muang District, Lamphun

Abstract

The more rapid land used in urban expansion situation, the more lack of green areas in community. Ma-Kuer-Jae sub district in Lumphun is one of the area that has a tendency to expand because of the Northern Industrial Estate. This community has no green area preserving plan and low green area per population (0.03 square meter per person). The objective of this research is to find the potential of green areas for conducting green model proposal and policy to preserve green area in this community.          Primary data by surveying, meeting and group discussing from stakeholders in the community while secondary data such as local community developments, green area concepts were used for collecting data. In order to analyze data to formulate green area model and policy for suitable uses in this area in order to preserve green area sustainability.

From the result, the two models were designed; public pond as eco-tourism attraction and public tomb as culture and recreation attraction. In addition, the policy was proposed to 8 keywords consist of 1) set-up core committee 2) packed green area budgeting in local plan 3) knowledge sharing from best practice 4) improve operational process 5) stakeholders participate 6) define the main department 7) building awareness and 8) promote green area knowledge.
