Structural Equation Analysis of Knowledge Management Impacting Organizational Performance through Employee Development in Thailand's Hotel Industry

Abstract

This research’s objectives are 1) to investigate the structure of knowledge management, employee development, and organization performance in Thailand's hotel industry; 2) to create a model of the structure of knowledge management, employee development, and organization performance in Thailand's hotel industry; 3) to test the model of the structure of knowledge management, employee development, and organization performance in Thailand's hotel industry against empirical data; and 4) to investigate the promoting of knowledge management in Thailand's hotel industry. The researcher used a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. In the quantitative research, use the accidental sampling technique to sampling 418 cases from the hotel staff who working for four-star hotel in Thailand.


 The result indicated that the data was analyzed with the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) of knowledge management Impacting organizational performance through employee development in Thailand's hotel industry have coherence with an empirical data. Knowledge management has a positive direct effect on employee development; and employee development has a positive direct effect on organization performance; and knowledge management has a positive indirect effect on organization performance which is mediated by employee development. Likewise, the results of the qualitative method using a focus group found that in order to promote knowledge management, employees' competencies should be developed in 3 areas: 1) presentation competency; 2) coaching competency; and 3) a good attitude in development competency, resulting more efficiency of organization performance.
