Abstract

The Jōmon pottery has a remarkably unique style which its rim has a pattern of flame or coiled up body of a snake coiling cross loosely with the same pattern as an abstract art. This exquisite and fascinating style inspires or contributes artisans to create creative ceramics or contemporary potteries particularly in Japan. Therefore, this results in having its own style called Jomonesques style. It means a characteristic of art pottery that is originally from inspiration and impression of the Jōmon pottery’s technique taken as a primary idea. Presently, there are two types of Jomonesques style: 1) Continued traditional style and 2) Contemporary style that has two types : a) Ceramic pottery is created from a combination of a prominent and interesting shape or visual elements of each Jōmon period and a contemporary idea of artisans b) Ceramic sculpture is created by artisans who freely interpretor modify characteristics of notable Jomonesques style in order to create a new ceramic sculpture using unlimited techniques.
