Thailand is one of the top tourist destinations of the world. In the last 20 years, Thai government has supported the growth of tourist industry in Thailand. The number of tourists traveling to Thailand has been rapidly risen and this has brought a significant increase in tourism revenue contributing to Thailand economy. However, this also causes major problems to local communities such as the rise of living cost, emigration of the local residents, the changes of the local living culture and gentrification. Thai academics and researchers have suggested many possible directions to relieve these problems, but there is no suggestion involving Experience Design. This paper aims to draw a connecting line between cultural tourism and Experience Design (XP) which is powerful communication tool for disseminating local history, vernacular culture and tradition. This paper suggests XP becomes an important key to develop sustainable cultural tourism and also conserve local communities.
