The Invention of Kinnaree Songkrueng Dance Performance

Abstract

The invention of the Kinnaree Songkrueng Dance (Kinnaree Dressing Dance) performance was aimed to study the role of Kinnaree in traditional Thai dance and the posture of the Songkrueng dance which led to invent the new performance of Songkrueng from the Kinnaree’s dressing in Unarut drama script of King Buddha Loetla Nabhalai, Phra Unarut Went to Meet Kinnaree chapter. The invention had 2 processes which were; collecting data process – gathering acknowledgement for design the invention, and creating performance to perform art choreography in royal conservative dance style. The result found that; Kinnaree in the Unarut’s drama script were Kaewkinnorn, Ratchada, Suwankinnaree, Chandhamalee, and Kesornsumondha. 5 of them were the beautiful angels. The posture of Songkrueng dance’s study found that there were the main postures, the expand postures, and the support postures. The creator brought the identities of Kinnaree dance in Thai choreography and Songkrueng dance pattern to create the 21 main postures, 7 expand postures, and 6 of support postures. The original lyrics and melody in dressing chapter of the drama script were used to perform with addition of the lyrics and melody in the beginning part. The costume was created follow the drama script with combination of Kinnaree Thai classical dance costumes.
