STUDYING RESPONSIBILITIES OF PRODUCTION MANAGER TO FIT THE MODEL OF CREATING THE PLAY IN THAILAND

Abstract

This research learned about roles, duties, and working models of production manager from textbooks, academic articles, and related studies, which based on theories and systems commonly used in foreign countries. As a result, I recognized the factors causing different models of management between theaters in Thailand and abroad. So, I interviewed who are experienced and skillful experts in theater management, to understand more about management models in Thailand. Moreover, as a method of collecting research data, I was in charge of production administering in a musical called “Long Live Jit Poumisak”. bring theories and systems commonly used in foreign countries try to use in this production, the researcher had to follow research methodology, which is collecting data, comparing all factors which cause different practices, and synthesizing a suitable model for the role of production manager in theater management in Thailand.

The research indicates 3 key factors causing dissimilar roles of production managers: (1) distinctive organization systems in each production; (2) different perceptions of the concept of production manager; and (3) lack of trust of knowledge and responsibility in the position of production manager. The researcher of this topic, realized that efficient working models and the proper roles of production managers are composed from these elements and skills: (1) actualizing well-thought-out work plans, both production schedule and budget plans of each department; (2) coordinating and setting up meetings to follow up the production progress; (3) controlling installing process and striking process; and (4) truly understanding safety regulations in all production areas.
