The Colors of Isan mural paintings (Hoop Taem)

Abstract

Colors from Isan mural paintings is a study to find specific colors, their origins, and tones from distinctive Isan mural paintings. This research has resulted in conclusions about the colors that appear in the Isan murals from the oldest murals until 1957, a total of 46 places, by using the Studio Pantone Application. In dividing the color values from a total of 731 color values, the color values were grouped into groups. Then, duplicate color values were eliminated, leaving 208 color values before importing the color values into the international standard color code number identification. The process of determining the color used for painting murals in the Northeast was divided into 24 color values according to PANTONE's international principles, by selecting colors with the frequency of use in painting in each temple as the main criteria for selection. In some cases, a particular color value found only in one place was also classified as a unique color. Therefore, the color values of 24 colors are in accordance with international principles. However, some groups of color values may have a color value that has a frequency of use of more than one color value, which can be seen as well. The 24 color values obtained can be considered as the colors that artisans in the Northeast like to use for outstanding writing. The research also compared color values to international color standards for creative design, especially for the communication of designers and employers as well as manufacturers to have the same understanding. These colors can be used both domestically and abroad and also can actually be used for further benefit.
