STUDY ACTING APPROACHES THROUGH THE ROLE OF ANATOU FROM THE ICE WOLF

Abstract

This research aims to study acting approaches as well as improving my acting abilities through the role of Anatou from The Ice Wolf. I have realized that Anatou is a character that clearly reflects many social issues such as bullying and being a victim of otherness. The reason that she has to struggle with these problems is only because of her physical appearance that is different from others. These problems has caused Anatou many complex feelings and inner states. My objective was to explore different acting approaches as to understand portray this character as well as possible. The approaches that I chose include: Lecoq’s technique which is consisted of the four elements movements (Earth, Water, Wind and Fire) and animal’s movements, Chekhov’s technique which is consisted of Imaginary Center, Psychological Gesture (PG) and Sensation: Floating. These approaches are focused on coordinating your body movements with imagination and eventually, affecting your psychological movements. Exploring these techniques would eventually lead me to approach the character of Anatou at the most detailed level. The information and discoveries made during rehearsal process will be stated later on in this thesis book.

The Ice Wolf was performed at the Drama Studio, Thammasat University during 8th-19th March 2018 with the total of 6 performances. The audience’s feedback was received through a set of evaluation forms these comments are very useful to me in terms of improving my acting potential. More than half of the audience were satisfied with the play and the over performance of actors. The evaluation result as well as my discoveries have signified that my assigned goals have been fulfilled, because I have successfully portrayed Anatou and improved my acting abilities.
