A study of Characterization of Nymphaea lotus 'Red' to remove the pattern into the
Souvenirs design aims to 1) to investigate characterization of Nymphaea lotus ‘Red’ to remove
the pattern into the souvenirs design 2) to bring the pattern of Nymphaea lotus ‘Red’ for
applying into the souvenirs design. The samples consist of 3 experts in terms of Graphic Designs
and using evaluation form for assesses design. Then created the souvenirs design prototypes
and evaluated satisfaction by 300 consumers with purposive selection method
The results found the Flowers (Blossom out and Budding flowers) were the best
physical characteristic that could communicate the Nymphaea Lotus ‘Red’ as tourist
attraction of ‘Red Lotus Sea’ very obviously. That could be easiest recognized by the tourists,
had been suitable for main pattern design and the other parts such as the lotus leaf, the
pollens and stalk had been suitable for component pattern, in the other hand the rhizomes
had not been suitable to remove into the pattern design because the rhizomes had been
messy and difficult to remove the pattern into design, especially there had not been suitable
because there were under the water therefore the tourists could not see when the tourists
saw the Red Lotus Sea and nor recognized them, so the rhizomes were the least attention
lotus components for the souvenirs design. To remove the patterns into the souvenirs design
for 2 target female groups namely 1) working age: 25-60 years, having much purchasing
power, the guideline design was realistic pattern style by presented realistic with original and
2) teen-age: 15-25 years, having less purchasing power, the guideline design was Pop art
pattern style. The characteristic of pattern were bright and colorful. The souvenir designs were
scarves, glasses and notebooks.
The evaluated pattern design results of 3 prototypes. The first one was the notebooks
in the highest level (mean = 4.63), the second was the scarves in high level (mean = 4.57) and
the third was the glasses in the high level (mean = 4.49). The price was the first thing that the
consumers evaluated, at the follows the usability of product and the last thing was the shipping
or carrying.
