การศึกษาเปรียบเทียบสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในไตรภูมิกถา กับเทพปกรณัมวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ

ไตรภูมิกถามีเนื้อหาสาระเกี่ยวกับกามภูมิ รูปภูมิ อรูปภูมิ จากภพภูมิต่าง ๆ ที่มีความหลากหลายทำให้ผู้วิจัยสนใจศึกษาเรื่องสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏในไตรภูมิกถา เพื่อศึกษาแนวคิด ความเชื่อ ทัศนคติ และบทบาทของสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏในวรรณกรรมสำคัญของชาติ ทั้งยังสามารถเชื่อมโยงแนวคิดเรื่องสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติให้กว้างขวางยิ่งขึ้น โดยการศึกษาเปรียบเทียบกับเทพปกรณัมในวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ ที่มีการกล่าวถึงสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติไว้อย่างหลากหลาย
งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาเปรียบเทียบลักษณะเด่นของสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในเทพปกรณัมต่าง ๆ ผู้วิจัยได้ใช้ข้อมูลจากที่มีการกล่าวถึงสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในเทพปกรณัมต่อไปนี้ ข้อมูลชุด A สะท้อนจากวัฒนธรรมไทย : ศึกษาสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏใน “ไตรภูมิกถา” ซึ่งเป็นวรรณกรรมเก่าแก่ทางพระพุทธศาสนา ข้อมูลชุด B สะท้อนจากวัฒนธรรมต่างชาติ : ศึกษาสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏในเทพปกรณัมกรีก เทพปกรณัมนอร์ส เทพปกรณัมอเมริกันอินเดียน เทพปกรณัมอียิปต์ เทพปกรณัมฮินดู เทพปกรณัมจากศาสนาคริสต์ รวม 9 วัฒนธรรม 25 สำนวน โดยมีการจำแนกข้อมูลสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏในวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ เพื่อพิจารณาลักษณะเด่นของแต่ละวัฒนธรรม จากนั้นจึงนำมาเปรียบเทียบกับสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในไตรภูมิกถา
ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ลักษณะพิเศษและทัศนคติที่มีต่อสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในไตรภูมิกถาได้มีความเหมือนคล้ายกับเทพปกรณัมฮินดูอย่างใกล้ชิด สำหรับในวัฒนธรรมอื่น ๆ สะท้อนให้เห็นลักษณะร่วมของแนวคิดการมีชีวิตที่มี “ราก” จากเทพเจ้าและ สิ่งศักดิ์สิทธิ์ โดยสัมพันธ์กับสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติมาเป็นเวลาช้านาน
จากการศึกษาเรื่องสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติในไตรภูมิกถา และเทพปกรณัมวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ อีก 25 สำนวน ทำให้ได้เข้าใจถึงความหลากหลายและความสำคัญของสัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติที่ปรากฏอยู่ทุกวัฒนธรรม เห็นความเชื่อมโยงกันระหว่างเทพเจ้า วีรบุรุษ มนุษย์ และสัตว์ แม้จะมีความแตกต่างในรายละเอียด แต่สัตว์เหนือธรรมชาติได้มีบทบาทสำคัญและเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของเทพปกรณัมทั่วโลก
