Abstract

The R3B route forms part of the North-South Economic Corridor (NSEC) project, which connects Thailand, Myanmar, and China (Yunnan Province). This corridor is expected to enhance the competitiveness of both Myanmar and Thailand. The study employs a comparative synthesis of data from relevant documents, field surveys, and exchanges of perspectives with academics and business professionals in Thailand and Myanmar. The analysis is conducted within the frameworks of the Diamond Model Theory, the Resource-Based View Theory, and the specific context of the R3B route. The findings indicate that this route possesses significant potential to serve as a center for trade and tourism. In particular, Kengtung, which is the central hub of the route, demonstrates considerable development potential. However, Myanmar continues to face political instability, compounded by high transportation fees, complex regulations, and deteriorated infrastructure along the route. These factors hinder the full utilization of the route, resulting in high logistics costs and a decline in cross-border trade. Therefore, addressing political security issues and improving logistics infrastructure are essential for enhancing the competitiveness of the R3B route for both Myanmar and Thailand. Such improvements would enable greater access to the large markets of Southeast Asia. Furthermore, cooperation among the countries directly involved in the route—namely Thailand, Myanmar, and China—should be promoted.
