Development of Essay Writing Skills of Secondary Two Students Using Cooperative Learning and CIRC Technique with Local-Based Exercises

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to compare the essay writing ability of Secondary two students before and after implementing cooperative learning using the CIRC technique combined with local data-based exercises, and 2) to examine the level of satisfaction with this instructional approach among Secondary two students. The sample consisted of 22 students from Secondary 2/1, Semester 2, Academic Year 2024, at Charadchanupatham School, Kong Ra District, Phatthalung Province. The sample was selected through purposive sampling, focusing on one classroom as the sampling unit. The experiment was conducted over a total of 22 hours. The research tools included lesson plans, ten sets of CME 7W essay writing skill exercises, an essay writing ability test, and a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the instructional approach. Data analysis was conducted using mean (¯X), standard deviation (S.D.), and Dependent t-test. The research results indicated that: 1) the essay writing ability of Secondary two students significantly improved after implementing cooperative learning with the CIRC technique and local data-based exercises with a statistical significance level of 0.05; and 2) student satisfaction with this instructional approach was at the highest level.
